Mel is working in tech support, where she fixes the laptops of ungrateful, condescending tech bros. Looking for love on the dating apps, she encounters more disrespectful behaviour – the dick pics, the no shows etc. That’s when she decides to create her own app for women to warn others about the jerks. The ‘romance with her co-worker’ is a sub plot to the ‘surviving life as a woman without completely hating all men forever’ plot.
I love the female friendships, support and collaboration celebrated in this book, the hope that there are some good guys like Alex out there, and it’s one you could lend to your teenage sister/daughter because the sex is skimmed over.

Will it change the world?
The book explores sexism in the tech industry as well as misogyny more broadly, from the subway to the internet. Sad that all these things reflect real life and are not simply part of the fiction – we can all think of examples.
It also explores the dilemma of trying to do the right thing in the tech industry, explaining how it works and the downsides to life online.
And that maybe we should search it up before we ring tech support!
