One insanely attractive widower seeks governess for his mischievous son. One curvy scientist seeks missing racehorse, upon which her family’s fortune has been gambled.
Not only is Mary Lou Finch investigating the disappearance of Pierce Thorndike’s horse, but also the murder of his trainer, found dead at the scene. Mary Lou’s sleuthing does not go undetected by Thorndike, who appears to tolerate her curiosity for his son’s benefit; young Edward is more settled, both emotionally and in his studies, since Mary Lou arrived.
However the more time Thorndike and Mary Lou spend together, the more unsettled they become as Mary Lou tries not to be distracted from her in investigation by her handsome employer and he tries not to cross the line with a member of staff.
We get to watch Mary Lou unravel the mystery and Thorndike unravel her. Love it!
I’m giving this 5 stars because what more do you want from historical romance?

Will it change the world?
A big dose of feminism in a time when women were supposed to look pretty, get married, have kids and not much else.
Love that Mary Lou is clever, has a university degree and that Thorndike loves her brains as well as her beauty.
