We meet Tatum and Emmett when they’re divorced and there’s another man on the scene. Their story from this point is interspersed with their history, so we move through their lives “then” and “now”. We see how they got together and their passion sparked and wonder how a couple so in love could have ended up hardly speaking two words to eachother. As the mystery unfolds there are absolutely tragic and heartbreaking moments. Prepare to have your heart ripped out. Ripped out and stamped on and then put back together.
The story is told from Emmett’s perspective and he is so kind and fair and he loves so hard. If you are not in love with Emmett by the end of the book, then basically, what are you thinking?!
It has some quirky parts and some times where Emmett sounds like a poet. Overall I’d say the characters were great, and the book really drew out the power of the love within a family and as a parent, as well as a romantic partner.
I’m crying just writing this – the other people on the train must think I’m nuts – I loved this book!
The narrator is also 100% awesome. He has a gorgeous voice and really brings Emmett to life. Weeks later I can still hear him say key phrases from the book. I plan to search for other books he’s read just to listen to him some more.
Finally, I feel like I need to give a content warning – but I can’t without spoiling the story 😬 The bio says “sensitive subject matter”

Will it change the world?
I don’t want to give spoilers, so I’ll just say there’s a moral to the story which is an important message to convey.
